Calcium Carbonate

NZ soils are often magnesium deficient

Dolomite builds your soil magnesium and calcium base saturation levels.

Applying Dolomite builds pasture magnesium levels decreasing animal metabolic problems.

2

Is a natural resource of New Zealand

Dolomite, NZ’s finest magnesium fertiliser, is a completely natural rock deposit from Mount Burnett, Golden Bay.
Using Dolomite reduces your carbon footprint, and improves on farm profit.

3

Is totally safe on the environment

Dolomite neutralises soil acids and improves physical soil structures, along with stimulating bacterial decomposition.
Dolomite has certified organic status, meeting BioGro certification requirements for sustainable agriculture.

4

Lifts pH more effectively than calcium alone

Dolomite has 105% liming value making it 15% more effective at lifting pH than a 90% purity agricultural lime.
Dolomite can neutralise free acid found in certain phosphate materials and can counter the potential acidity of nitrogen fertilisers.

5

Can improve soil structure

The correct base saturation of magnesium and calcium determines soil structure. Magnesium tightens soil and calcium loosens it.
Correct applications of Dolomite can lift the base saturation of both calcium and magnesium to the required levels, resulting in optimum pore space within the soil profile, providing 25% air and 25% water.
This, along with correct nutrient levels, provides an ideal environment for soil biology to thrive.

6

Insoluble yet plant available

Dolomite does not leach out valuable minerals like other magnesium sources can.Sulphate and chloride salts of magnesium can leach out valuable nutrient base ions such as calcium, potassium, and sodium, lowering soil fertility.

7

Essential for plant photosynthesis

Dolomite provides magnesium found at the centre of the chlorophyll and essential for photosynthesis, turning sunlight into plant growth.

GOLDEN BAY DOLOMITE IS THE NATURAL COST-EFFECTIVE CHOICE

Applying maintenance amounts of Dolomite (250kgs/ha) can cost as little as $40 to $80/Ha (depending on region).

This supplies enough calcium and magnesium to meet your soils needs, and to be a catalyst for pasture growth this season and beyond.

Farm benefits

Soils

Soils

  • Increased nutrient storage and availability
  • Continual improvement of soil tilth and soil structure
  • Reduced reliance on nitrogen inputs

FUNCTIONS OF MAGNESIUM IN PLANTS

  • Found at the centre of the chlorophyll, essential for plant photosynthesis
  • Is a carrier for Phosphorus, ensuring a steady supply to the plant
  • Will increase nitrogen fixation in legumes
  • Is both an enzyme activator and constituent of many enzymes
  • Responsible for sugar synthesis and starch translocation
  • Nutrient uptake control

FUNCTIONS OF MAGNESIUM IN ANIMALS

  • Necessary for 100s of animal biochemical pathways, particularly involved in nerve function
  • Ruminants require magnesium for efficient feed conversion and metabolism
  • Magnesium deficiencies manifest themselves as nervousness, grass staggers, milk fever, low milk production, weight loss and infertility
