Albrecht Soil System

Neal Kinsey: American specialist in the Albrecht soil fertility system

Winter 2023 has been pivotal with Golden Bay Dolomite (GBD) independently hosting American soil specialist Neal Kinsey in our backyard. Neal presented a transformation soils course in Blenheim, benefiting leading farmers and soil consultants that recognise the importance of soil health for our primary sector.

The role of magnesium and calcium in soils is the cornerstone of Dr William Albrecht’s work. These two elements are fundamental for achieving a healthy soil structure and the uptake of other key nutrients (NPKS) needed for plant growth. Ideally, soils should contain 60-70% calcium and 10-20% magnesium for good plant nutrition and animal health. Golden Bay Dolomite has a mineral composition of 23% calcium and 11% magnesium, meaning it is a perfect product option for achieving the best balance for healthy soils.

As a student, Neal had the opportunity to learn from Dr Albrecht at Missouri University and has since established a successful consultancy, Kinsey Ag, working with farmers for over 40 years, in over 70 different countries.
