The soil feeds the grass, which in turn feeds the animals that then return nutrients back to the soil via dung and urine. The linkages between the system can also be traced backwards to determine where deficiencies may have originated. Ultimately, farm systems can affect the quality of human health – the old proverb “you are what you eat” has never been more imperative as soil quality is decreasing while our reliance on agri-chemicals is at an all-time high.
